We finally have our first look at Prince Harry on his wedding day, and he has chosen to wear a military uniform. He has selected to wear the frockcoat uniform of the Blues and Royals.

As a veteran, can I wear my Service Greens to a wedding?: Hi all. I was recently asked to wear my dress uniform to a wedding for an active duty friend. AR670-1 states this is an approved event for a veteran. However, I got out right as the Army was transitioning to the Blues only and didn't see the point in buying a new uniform since I got out while the Greens were still authorized. Firefighters have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. Walking into a house fire that could reach 1000 degrees in under a minute (that’s not a typo) or a chemical fire that may reach double or triple that temperature in seconds, while battling smoke inhalation as well, means a firefighter’s life depends on being supplied with the best equipment that money can buy.

“Both Prince Harry and The Duke of Cambridge will wear the frockcoat uniform of the Blues and Royals,” reads a statement from Kensington Palace this morning.

“Her Majesty The Queen gave her permission for Prince Harry to get married in his uniform.”

Prince William wore the vibrant red Irish Guards Mounted Officer’s uniform at his wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011, but that didn’t necessarily mean Prince Harry would his lead.

Back in November, royal expert and officer of arms Alastair Bruce spoke with Cosmopolitan's UK edition about what Prince Harry could wear on his wedding day.

Why Not To Wear Uniforms

'As Prince Harry is no longer a serving officer in the Armed Forces, it is unlikely he will wear a uniform. However he could, if he wishes, as he hold a special position as a Member of the Royal Family,' Bruce said.

'The Duke of Cambridge wore the uniform of the Colonel, Irish Guards, because he had recently been appointed to this by The Queen and his wedding, as a future monarch, was a ceremonial one,' he continued.

'If [Prince Harry and Meghan Markle] choose to marry in St. George's Chapel, as the Earl of Wessex did, I would expect he would choose Morning Dress.'

'Looking at the way Harry is, I don’t think he’d want all his friends to be put through all that panoply, and once you have a groom wearing full military uniform, you’re going to have a lot of other people wear full military uniform. It kind of changes the day,' Bruce told T&C, while speaking about the new documentary The Coronation.

'The way this is different is that [Harry] is not in the direct line of succession. He is a member of the royal family. This is a family wedding which is taking place not in public, not out of the public eye, but within the castle, which is much less visual,' Bruce said.

'His brother was married in the coronation church of Westminster Abbey where the crown jewels were laid upon the queen’s head, a very public place. And he was definitely marked out to be the heir after the heir, and Harry is quite safely different from that.'

That said, Bruce was quick to point out that he didn't know the young royal's plans for certain.

'I may be wrong,' he said. 'But I remain of the opinion that he won’t be in uniform.'

Prince Harry's wedding invitations, which were first shared publicly on March 22, included a clue that Bruce would indeed be incorrect. The dress code for men was written as 'Uniform, Morning Coat, or Lounge Suit,' indicating there was a good chance we'd see the groom in a uniform.
